Land Governance Knowledge Exchange Event Registration Form

As part of the Arab Land Initiative, and in cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Program UN-HABITAT and the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN), the International Youth Council – Yemen (IYCY) will organize a regional conference to share knowledge on the role of CSOs in land governance in The Arab region from 20 - 21 December 2020.

The conference is an event for discussion of the role and challenges facing CSOs operating in the land governance sector in the region. It will highlight the potential areas of CSOs work for cooperation between different organizations and their capacity and contribution to better land management in the Arab countries. Moreover, the Yemeni authorities will participate in this event in order to have real coordination between the government and CSOs. Among the goals that must be pointed out and analyzed in the discussion are the common issues that CSOs face when addressing women's needs as well as women's groups that focus on improving women's social rights, land rights and land regulations across the region. The event will also aim to educate local NGOs in the Arab region of the importance of concerted efforts and work together to demand that governments give legitimacy and strengthen more procedures of CSOs and the degree of their independence and operational freedom to contribute to achieving good land management.

The main objectives of the event are to share knowledge in creating a common understanding and areas of converging interest about the role of civil society in land governance in the Arab region, with a focus on land and property rights and land tenure security. By bringing together experts, government representatives, civil society partners from the region, and other partners from various sectors.

With highlighting the role of CSOs in land governance and identifying best practices about the role of CSOs in the Arab region, such as, mobilizing public opinion, representing the voiceless, experts analysis and recommendations, ability to respond to trauma management, management and implementation, monitoring, legitimization on decision-making mechanisms, to ensure the development of individuals and organizations' capacities in areas such as, capacities to participate, capacities to generate, access and use information and knowledge, capacities to develop strategies, policies and legislation, capacities to manage and implement, and capacities to monitor and evaluate impacts.


Conference language: Arabic and English will be the two languages ​​adopted in the conference, and instant translation will be provided to the participants.
