Workshop on Good Land Governance in Mukalla
The International Youth Council – Yemen (IYCY) held this morning, Sunday, December 6, 2020 in the city of Mukalla, Hadramawt governorate, a workshop to exchange knowledge on the role of civil society organizations in the management of the land (Land Governance). This evell comes within the partnership between IYCY and the United Nations Agency for Human Settlements UN-HABITAT/GLTN.
After these workshops, IYCY will organize a regional event to exchange knowledge about the role of civil society organizations in land governance in the Arab region for the period 20-21 December, 2020.
The workshop aims to provide comprehensive knowledge about land governance to different participants representing the government and private sectors, civil society organizations, researchers and those interested in the land governance field, the workshop also discussed the challenges facing civil society organizations in this field. The workshop discussed key issues to know the reasons behind land conflict, as well as land ownership and societies rights to own land especially Yemeni women, and raising a number of proposed solutions to overcome the challenges facing society in land acquisition, land ownership, land registration, and the real estate registry).
The workshop came out with a number of important recommendations and suggestions, most notably the creation of a common understanding between the government and civil society to improve work on the side of good land management, solve problems that occur in society because of the lands, and benefit from the experiences of successful Arab countries in this aspect.
