International Youth Council-Yemen (IYCY), has been granted observer status during the fourteenth session of the Conference of Parties (COP 14) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) which has decided to grant observer status to IYCY following with the Recommendation made by the UNCCD secretariat.
In a press statement, the Chairman of the Council Mr. Tareq Hassan said that the this accreditation comes as a culmination of the efforts made by the IYCY in bringing about positive change in the environment and , energy and Climate Change activities in Yemen.
Throughout the past few years in various governorates of the Republic of Yemen, which have contributed significantly to build the capacities of young people and enable them to participate actively in the development of Yemeni society as well as through many awareness and campaign programs such as , Plastic Pollutions ,Water pollutions, Climate Change and capacity building in installing of solar energy as well as the implementation of installing solar system to Medical Centers to protect Yemen Environment . .
“This is a great opportunity for the Council to be universally recognized, and it gives the team a great impetus to engage in global issues towards sustainable development around the world and to work for the future of Yemen to that avoids, minimizes, and reverses desertification/land degradation and mitigates the effects of drought in affected areas at all levels in addition, to achieve a land degradation-neutral that is consistent with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
The Council is the first Yemeni Organization that has been granted this accreditation and will be the first Yemeni organization to attend the sessions of the COP and its Subsidiary Bodies at the international level with member states, civil societies and stakeholders said Hassan.
On behalf of the IYCY team, Hassan expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for this recognition of excellence and that it is time to do more work and responsibility to achieve sustainable development in Yemen and in the world too.
IYCY is a non-governmental, non-profit organization that specifically targets youth and society. Since 2012, IYCY has contributed to youth and community development through its programs and interventions either supported by INGOs or self-financed activities. The span of programs and activities focus not only on youth and women but also on the community as a whole. Its projects include WASH, Nutrition, Food, Health, Energy, Environment and Climate Change as well as youth development. IYCY attaches great importance to WASH, health and environmental issues that affect the community as a whole and youth, children and women in particular.
