The International Youth Council Yemen (IYCY) and its partners concluded today, Thursday, the activities of the” local youth climate conference LCOY YEMEN 2024 ” in its virtual version, which lasted over two days (October 2-3, 2024).
The conference included many sessions and workshops in the field of climate action, such as climate justice, integrating environmental education, biodiversity and youth involvement in climate action, sustainable development and other important topics related to environmental, climate and sustainable development issues
More than 250 people, who are interested in environmental and climate issues, and those interested in the environmental field in Yemen, participated in the conference.
The sessions and workshops of the conference were presented by a number of competencies with long experience in the field of environmental and climate work.
The conference highlighted the seriousness of climate change, climate challenges, and the efforts exerted by the countries of the world in this regard, as well as reviewed the reality of the climate in Yemen, in light of instability and Yemen’s impact on climate change, and the country witnessed hurricanes and floods in the recent period.
For his part, the Representative of the IYCY, engineer Tareq Hassan, said, “it is a pleasure for me to extend to all of you my sincere thanks and deep gratitude for your active participation and gracious attendance at the local youth climate conference LCOY YEMEN 2024 .
He added that this conference, which has achieved success thanks to your cooperation and great support, reflects the shared responsibility that we all bear towards the future of our country and the world in facing the challenges of climate change.
“You have been the heart and soul of this conference, through your active participation and balanced presence, you have added positive energy and strengthened the importance of collective action in facing the climate challenges, every word, every question, and every discussion you have been a part of has contributed to enriching the deliberations and opening new horizons of thinking and innovation.”.
“We are sure that this conference is only a step in a long path of climate action, the challenges facing us are great, but with this youthful energy and valuable contributions from all parties, we are confident that the future holds hope for us and the desired change,”he said.
Hassan stressed the continuation of working together, saying “hand in hand we will build a green and sustainable future”.
The conference is a platform and a window for Yemeni youth to learn about climate issues and international initiatives to address climate challenges.
It is worth mentioning that the conference will be held in both SANA Taiz , Aden and Hadramaut in the coming days, to raise more awareness of climate issues, and create community awareness in the Yemeni center of climate change and international agreements, especially the “Paris Agreement” and the United Nations Framework Convention on climate change
