Needs Assessment on Good Land Governance
Today in Ataq city, a workshop was held to exchange knowledge about the role of civil society in the field of good land governance, which was organized by IYCY, in cooperation with the MFD in the governorate, with the participation of 25 leading figures representing the government, private sector, and civil society organizations, as well as community activists who are interested in land governance field. The workshop was moderated by Mr. Ali Ahmed Omair – The General Manager of the Social Affairs and Labor Office – to exchange the concepts and knowledge about good land management (land governance) as well as the challenges facing civil society in this field. The participants discussed key points related to the contexts and causes that create conflict on lands, as well as the basics of land ownership and the community rights to own land.
The International Youth Council – Yemen (IYCY) and the Maali Foundation for Development (MFD) organized a workshop on Good Land Governance in Shabwah governorate.
The participants put forward their opinions and perspectives that might lead to overcome the challenges facing society in land acquisition, land ownership, land registration, and the real estate registry). The workshop concluded with a number of recommendations aimed at creating a common understanding between the government and civil societies in a way that contributes to solving the problems that occur because of the lands, and by learning from experiences of successful countries in this field. At the end of the workshop, which was held in the hall of Shabwa Youth Organization, the program coordinator at the International Youth Council – Yemen Eng. Salah Al-Abdali, said that “This workshop comes within the partnership between IYCY and the United Nations Agency for Human Settlements UN-HABITAT/GLTN), explaining that after these workshops, IYCY will organize a regional event to exchange knowledge about the role of civil society organizations in land governance in the Arab region for the period 20-21 December,2020.
