Education for Sustainable Development
Under the Education for Sustainable Development Goal, International Youth Council-Yemen organized the event entitled “Youth for Peace” On Saturday, September 9, 2017, the International Youth Council – Yemen held a workshop entitled “Youth for Peace” Where 30 participants and representatives from civil society organizations, youth initiatives, university students and media in Taiz participated. The workshop explained the concept of development and the difference between development and sustainable development as sustainable development is the gate of securing the economic and social life of the present generations and ensuring that the needs of future generations will continue to be met without harm of the resources of generations to come. The path of sustainable development eliminates immediate problems while not followed by future obstacles as it has comprehensive objectives and clear results. Explaining the difference between the Millennium goals of the United Nations and the goals of sustainable development and its Environment and Social, economic and institutional dimensions, drawing out obstacles standing against achieving sustainable development.
Ibrahim Al-Musallami -workshop trainer- went on to say that ending the armed conflicts is the only way to achieve peace and development. The participants were divided into four working groups to discuss the main requirements for peace in which they embodied the meanings and spirit of peace through interactive activities.
At the end of the workshop, participants called on all parties of the conflict to return to the dialogue table. Stressing the need to bring the views closer, rationalize the religious discourse, and make all efforts to heal the rift within the society, addressing the United Nations and those concerned inland to stop the armed strife and to move towards spreading a culture of peace in Yemen.
It also recommended creating “Peace Groups” which comes within the framework of taking responsibility for starting a step towards peace. To be accompanied by the establishment of peace and cooperation initiatives to achieve partnership with civil society organizations and institutions working to achieve sustainable development, peace and serious and positive interaction with changes at the national, regional and international levels to which support the common humanitarian values to achieve the role of peace in bringing about sustainable development in Yemen.
