IYCY celebrates the International Youth Day
International Youth Council Yemen (IYCY) celebrates in the International Youth Day 2016
International Youth Council-Yemen established the event which titled “the road to 2030: End poverty and achieve sustainable production and consumption”. It was held in the council’s headquarters on Friday afternoon on the occasion of International Youth Day, which coincide the 12th of August of each year. The event was attended by many international and local organizations, as well as Social Affairs Office in Sana’a , private sector representatives and a group of academics.
The event was opened by the speech of the Executive Manager of the International Youth Council – Yemen – ” Abdulrahman Al-Asali”, as he welcomed the crowd of the attendees and expressed his thanks to them in such occasion which contained a great deal of importance to the whole world, On his part, ” Mujib Al-Fatash” the director general of the Office of Social Affairs and Labor in the Municipality of the capital, emphasized that youth are the only voice of the nation who are able to make the real development and change. Also, he praised the role of the International Youth Council – Yemen – for its services and attention for youth issues. As it also work as a representative for them through the adoption of programs and projects that contribute to the improvement of humanity as a hub of human development. Finally, he thanked the Council’s invitation to attend such event.
For her part, The representative of the campaign ” Yemen is our Home” from United Nations Development Program, she expressed thanks and appreciation for joint cooperation between the United Nations Development Program and the Council in the development of youth, as she showed the projects that implemented which considered under the aim of enabling Yemeni youth economically and socially through community work in the different Yemeni provinces.
Furthermore, the event included the presentation that consist of the goals of sustainable development and how to implement strategies that related to that goals; which reflect this event on Yemen. This came through the establishment of a small workshop for the attendees which focused on the prioritization of the development goals that can be done to reach to a sustainable community development in 2030. In addition, it has been presented variety parts of activities and projects of the Council. For his part, Dr. Walid Al-Saqaf the head of the Yemeni Internet Society emphasized in his recorded participation the importance of the role of youth in achieving the development at the nation and international level. He also praised for the Council and the Yemeni Organization for the development and technical solutions which are one of the key partners of the Council in the implementation of many projects and activities of between it this event.
The international Youth Council – Yemen – appreciated the opinions and posts that made by the Director of Youth Program in Care and director of projects at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the responsible Humanitarian Affairs OCHA, the coordinator of the project to improve the viability of youth employment at the age of secondary education GIZ, the coordinator of the youth project in the organization Saferworld and other representatives of various organizations and sectors that related to the objectives of sustainable development.
As a conclusion for this event the participants delivered the matrix proposed plans to implement the objectives of sustainable development in Yemen that the Council will study and work to find a mechanism for implementation within the strategic plans of the Board. The Council intends to establish programs and activities which designed to contribute to and participate in reaching the goals of sustainable development, in partnership with civil society organizations and official agencies.
