The International Youth Council Yemen and its partners organize a local youth climate conference in Hadramout Governorate of Yemen

The International Youth Council – Yemen, as the main host of the conference, and its partners, Solutions for Sustainable Communities and the Yemen Family Care Association, organized the local youth climate conference in Hadhramaut Governorate of Yemen  in the period 21-22 November 2023.

The conference aimed to focus on pressing issues related to climate change in Yemen and contribute to the outcomes of the COP28 conference..

Attendees participated in discussion sessions covering a wide range of climate change topics.

These topics included current climate policies, adaptation strategies, environmental protection laws, international climate action programs and projects, and the major challenges facing Yemen in confronting climate change.

The conference focused on the concept of sustainable development goals.

Participants stressed the crucial role played by youth and civil society organizations in reformulating sustainable development goals in Yemen in confronting climate change and intensifying efforts to develop solutions and action plans.

Among the outcomes of the conference, working groups were formed to focus on specific areas of interest, such as renewable energy initiatives, climate change adaptation strategies, and the use of traditional mud architecture.

The role of youth in environmental action and advocacy was also highlighted, with an emphasis on recognizing effective youth-led environmental initiatives and enhancing their participation in policy-making processes.

The conference included many discussions, workshops, and working groups held during the conference on several topics, including climate resilience in Yemeni agriculture, combating desertification, green leadership experiences, and the role of the media in raising climate awareness and addressing issues such as floods, hurricanes, rising sea levels, and marine pollution.

The importance of protecting the environment, preserving natural resources and developing sustainable practices were among the main topics raised at the conference.

The conference concluded with a ceremony honoring the valuable contributions of the participants and thanking the efforts of the young people participating in the conference and the partner organizers, the team of the Solutions Foundation and the Yemen Family Care Association in organizing and implementing the conference.

Emphasizing the importance of engaging Yemeni youth in climate issues and making their voices heard on the global stage. And the importance of establishing partnerships between youth initiatives, civil society organizations, and local and international stakeholders to effectively address climate challenges
