Second Awareness Sessions on the occasion of Earth Day
IYCY carrying out its second awareness sessions on the occasion of Earth Day
International Youth Council – Yemen (IYCY) organized its second awareness session on the occasion of Earth Day, titled “Empowering Climate Action in Yemen”.
IYCY hosted Engineer Tareq Hassan to present an online awareness course entitled (Empowering Climate Action in Yemen) on Monday, April 13, 2020, in Sana’a, which was attended by the correspondent of “Yemen Press”.
An official at IYCY said that this awareness session is the first of its kind in Yemen, and it targeted 28 participants from Yemeni youth interested in the environment and climate change from various Yemeni governorates.
Adding that the session began with a general definition of the reason behind the establishment of Earth Day by the representative of the International Youth Council Yemen.
Pointing out that Eng. Hassan talked in general about climate change, its causes and consequences, and also presented a graph explaining the extent of global warming during the past decade.
Engineer Hassan explained the agreements related to climate change around the world and talk about the meetings and conferences that take place annually to discuss these issues around the world, including the Paris Agreement & UNFCC.
Eng. Tareq Hassan touched on the available ways to work to protect the climate in Yemen, through the work of community-based youth initiatives to raise awareness about the effects of climate change.
Eng. Tareq Hassan indicated that one of the positive aspects of the war on Yemen is that citizens use renewable energy in all governorates due to the interruption of public electricity.
Eng. Tareq urged all youth to educate their friends and relatives about the environmental problems so that everyone is able to reduce the pollution that is produced daily, calling on the youth to participate in the global conferences held annually to discuss environmental issues around the world.
It is noteworthy that International Youth Council – Yemen is continuously implementing awareness sessions, and is currently preparing for a course on water pollution in Yemen that will be implemented in the next few days.
