Tareq Hassan Said..“The climate change pandemic is more deadly than wars

” Engineer “Tareq Hassan” participates in a discussion session on “The Role of Arab Youth in Climate Action”

The International Youth Council – Yemen, represented by Eng. Tariq Hassan, participated in the discussion session on the role of Arab youth in climate action, which was held in the children and youth pavilion at the COP27 climate conference, on November 15, 2022, within the framework of the challenges facing Arab youth to promote climate action in Their local communities, and learn about the impacts resulting from climate change, such as severe drought, water scarcity, severe fires, rising sea levels, floods, melting polar ice, catastrophic storms, and the decline of biodiversity.

During the session, Tareq Hassan touched on the challenges of climate change facing Iraq and most Arab countries, with the living and social problems it causes. He believes that the effects of climate change are “one of the main factors behind the conflict in the Middle East and North Africa region.”

Mr. Hassan pointed out that the Arabs are far behind in paying attention to climate issues, saying: “The Arabs are perhaps the people on earth most in need of attention to climate and environmental issues, because they face collective life threats, foremost of which is increasing water poverty.”..

Mr. Hassan also said that the upcoming United Nations conference “represents a call to the countries of the world to change or modify their living patterns to reduce the risks facing and threatening the world,” and also that “the climate change pandemic is more deadly than wars, and the coming wars will not break out because of political disputes and sovereign expansionist goals.” Rather, because of water and climatic advantages, as survival will be for the one with the most abundant water, the purest weather, and the most suitable climate.”..

At the conclusion of his speech, Hassan called for the need for educational curricula and media programs to include continuous materials to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
