Training course in installation of home solar systems
On August 5, 2019, International Youth Council – Yemen (IYCY) held a specialized training course on installation of home solar systems as part of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Program. The course targeted 40 participants, mostly engineers and academics from different majors
The course’s trainee, Eng. Salah Khalid Al-Abdali, explained the characteristics of solar energy as one of the renewable and clean energy sources due to its economic and environmental advantages and training them in a sequential and gradual manner in the field of solar energy, where the course included the concepts of the home solar system and its components and ways of connecting its components. In addition to how to design a complete solar system for homes and how to calculate the number of panels needed for the system, the capacity of batteries, types of wiring, charging regulator, and inverters.
During the course, participants learned about the components of home solar system and its functions, and the proper methods and techniques used in installing the system in the houses to optimize the utilization of solar energy in Yemen, thus contributing to the preservation of the environment.
On the other hand, the participants gained a great knowledge of the common mistakes in installation of solar systems and what is available in the local market of original products and their replicators and how to distinguish between them and choose the appropriate system. During the course, a training activity was organized. The participants were divided into groups and each group designed a solar energy system. The groups’ work was presented and according to their evaluation, the groups were able to design the solar systems in a precise engineering manner
It is worth noting that IYCY is a civil society organization that seeks to build the capacities of youth, develop their skills in several fields. In addition to its relief and development programs in a number of governorates and pay great attention to the Environment, Energy and Climate Change Program.
