Based on contextual analysis IYCY will define appropriate strategies and activities to address identified needs. This analysis will consider all relevant contextual factors such as scale, climate, culture, available materials and skills, logistics, funding, legislation and policies.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

IYCY\u2019s approach to shelterprovision is:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 To mobilise, train and organize communities and individuals during shelter provision<\/p>\n

\u2022 To support the coping strategies and solutions of beneficiaries<\/p>\n

\u2022 To support local institutions<\/p>\n

\u2022 To use local labour, goods, materials, and services wherever possiblea<\/p>\n

Approach specific to housing<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Cost-efficient shelter with the best possible durability.<\/p>\n

Approach specific to social and technical infrastructure<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Various stakeholders (local, national and international) are involved in the process of needs identification and design.<\/p>\n

\u2022 All social\/technical infra-structure complies with the needs of various other sectors and programmes.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Roles and responsibilities for the operation, budgeting and maintenance\u00a0 of infrastructure and services are explicit and realistic. Those deemed as responsible for recurrent financing and management (authorities, local communities, private sector) are supported to take on their role.<\/p>\n

Approach specific to settlement and camp planning<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Negotiate appropriate physical standards, inclusion of infrastructure and inter-relation to the surrounding environment with the planning and managing authorities.<\/p>\n

\u2022 To advocate for agencies, institutions and authorities to take on the construction and operation of infrastructure and services in the planned sites.<\/p>\n

  • Provide adequate shelter solutions and non-food items to the most vulnerable<\/li>\n
  • Ensure access to basic services for the most vulnerable living in collective centres and settlements<\/li>\n
  • Strengthen local stakeholders\u2019 capacity for Shelter, NFI & CCCM response<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
