The International Youth Council Yemen organizes the \u201cLocal #Youth Climate Conference\u201d in Sana\u2019a<\/h4>\n

The International Youth Council – Yemen and its partners from civil society organizations organized the \u201cLocal Youth Climate Conference\u201d in its first edition, today, Monday, November 20, in Sana\u2019a, in the presence of 150 participants, including actors and those interested in environmental and climate issues.<\/p>\n

This conference comes within a series of 4 conferences held in Sana’a, Aden, and Hadhramaut, in addition to a virtual version, within the framework of spreading awareness of climate concepts and introducing the upcoming #COP28 climate summit, which will be held at the end of this November in Dubai.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In his welcoming speech, the representative of the International Youth Council – Yemen, Engineer Tareq Hassan, reviewed a report on the environmental situation of Yemen, and the increase in flood levels and desertification.<\/p>\n

He also touched on the challenges that everyone must think about and start developing plans and strategies to overcome, in addition to the recommendations that the conference must come up with and work to follow up on in the future.<\/p>\n

The conference included four discussion sessions entitled \u201cClimate Action Policy in Yemen,\u201d in which the emergency and disaster official at the Technological Center for Sustainable Energy, Majid Al-Rifai, the director of the Environmental Awareness Center, Muhammad Al-Ghalibi, and the representative of the International Youth Council – Yemen, Engineer Tareq Hassan.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The session addressed several topics, the most prominent of which are (the urgent environmental challenges that must be worked on, the impact of environmental challenges on the local community and rural society, and environmental governance and protection of natural resources in #Yemen).\"\"<\/p>\n

In the second session, entitled \u201cYouth Participation and Advocacy for Climate Action in Yemen,\u201d the pivotal contributions of youth to climate advocacy and their ability to influence policy-making were highlighted. The difficulties and scarcity of available resources that restrict youth initiatives in society were also addressed.<\/p>\n

In the third session, which dealt with \u201cThe role of the media in climate communication,\u201d with the aim to focus on the importance of the media as an influential tool in spreading public awareness about climate change, creating community awareness of climate concepts, and focusing on the necessity of adopting media campaigns to enhance advocacy for climate issues at the local and national levels.<\/p>\n

While the fourth session dealt with \u201cCombat desertification in Yemen: strategies and community participation, as it is a critical and urgent issue that Yemen is currently going through as a result of desertification. The session aimed to provide effective visions and strategies to reduce the phenomenon of desertification in Yemen.<\/p>\n

During the conference, a series of discussions and information exchange took place on climate, #climate_justice, the path to COP28, the issues that will be discussed at the Dubai Climate Summit, and the commitments of major countries towards reducing the risks of climate change, in addition to helping developing countries with regard to protecting them from climate change.<\/p>\n

The next conferences will be held in the governorates of Aden and Hadramaut on November 23, in addition to the virtual version.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It is worth noting that the \u201cInternational Youth Council – Yemen\u201d is a civil society organization that aims to promote sustainable development and provide humanitarian assistance to youth, women and society in general in Yemen, in addition to implementing projects in various fields such as health, nutrition, women\u2019s empowerment, food security, agriculture, water and sanitation, protection and the environment.
