The International Youth Council – Yemen, represented by Engineer Tareq Hassan, participated in the Second Arab Land Conference, which was held in Cairo, Egypt in hybrid participation during the period from 22 to 24 February 2021..<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference represented a step towards establishing good land governance, with approximately 871 registered participants (164 physically and 707 virtually) and more than 5,000 live connections via Zoom.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the conference Engineer Tareq Hassan said: \u201cthat the matter requires reconsidering the grant system and improving planning methods effectively and sustainably to be compatible with the urban strategy, as it is the spatial map of Yemen\u2019s Vision 2040, and working to build capabilities in the field of planning and drafting the first urban planning law as a tool to regulate spatial development in a balanced manner in all areas. During his speech, Mr. Tareq touched on many issues and challenges related to lands facing the Arab region, including \u201cresolving land disputes, displacement, etc.,\u201d and obtaining information about lands, He noted that: \u201c in Yemen, there is only government land authority or authorities. So, he is Concerned that there are no other institutions, or organizations, involved; even the International Community Organizations have no involvement in managing the land process..<\/span><\/p>\n

Engineer Tariq Hassan added that, \u201cwithout a doubt, the Arab region has been severely affected by climate change. Desertification, land degradation, clean water pollution, decreased productivity, lack of agricultural and pastoral lands, and depletion of the environment and nature are all results that bear witness to climate change\u201d..<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference addressed several topics, such as organizing and managing land, modernizing and reforming land and property registration, flexibility and adaptation of land management in times of crises such as climate change, epidemics and conflicts, granting land to women, searching for technical and smart solutions to enhance land management, and developing effective use of land, while emphasizing the importance of private sector participation. In land investment and management, and developing capabilities in this field.<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference aimed to enhance cooperation, exchange knowledge, review experiences and recent research between Arab countries and regional and international organizations, develop the capabilities of individuals and organizations, support the implementation of programs and interventions related to land, and empower and develop capabilities in the land sector and its development in the Arab region.<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference represented a milestone in the road map towards establishing good land governance in the Arab region. It promotes good land governance and land administration by focusing on the priorities of the Arab Land Initiative: enhancing cooperation and coordination, developing and exchanging knowledge, developing the capabilities of individuals and organizations, and supporting the implementation of land-related programs and interventions..<\/span><\/p>\n
