The International Youth Council-Yemen participates in the 27th Conference of the Parties in Sharm El-Sheikh<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

The International Youth Council – Yemen, represented by Engineer Tariq Hassan,<\/strong> participated in the twenty-seventh Conference of the Parties COP27, which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, during the period 6-18 November 2022, with the participation of more than 196 countries..<\/span><\/p>\n

Participants in the 27th Conference of the Parties, known as COP27, sought to discuss the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, with the aim of assessing the progress made in responding to climate change..<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference focused on several goals, including: The first is <\/span>mitigation<\/b>, which refers to how countries work to reduce their carbon emissions; The second is to <\/span>adapt<\/b> to climate change and help others do so.<\/span><\/p>\n

The participation of Arab youth in the United Nations Conference on Climate Change is minimal in negotiations and other events during the conference.<\/span><\/p>\n

Engineer Tareq Hassan<\/strong> said that the attendance of Arab youth at the climate conference level was not as required and the reason is due to the lack of support by Arab governments for their youth, except only three Arab governments, as the expenses for attending, participating and playing an important role by youth cost sums of money that Arab youth cannot afford it..<\/span><\/p>\n

Tareq Hassan added<\/strong> that more than 80 Arab youth participated during the youth conference, and they were more effective and distinguished, despite the weak government support. Youth organizations and networks and civil society played a pivotal role in supporting the participation of Arab youth in CoP27. For example, the Arab Youth Network for Sustainable Development provided support to young people participating in the conference by funding their travel and organizing events that enhanced youth participation..<\/span><\/p>\n

It is noteworthy that this year’s Conference of the Parties is understood as an African conference rather than a Middle East conference. This global event highlights the entire region, which is severely affected by the effects of climate change, such as desertification, extreme weather events and water scarcity. Therefore, it should become COP27. A turning point where talk becomes actual action.<\/span><\/p>\n
